Stories of Warriors

A collection of short stories about the victory of light over darkness

SHORT STORIES

These are the stories of those who have passed through war and continue to create.

10 Ukrainian  warriors wrote short stories, and another 10 gave them voice for the audio collection. The text of one person and the voice of another reveal each other and allow these stories to sound in a unique way.

Read them. They matter.
Beams of light are most visible in the darkness. In the same way, the joy of friendship, love, self-sacrifice — that “human within humans” for which we exist — reveals itself in the conditions of war.

We are living through the greatest pain, but also the greatest hope. Our struggle, losses, victories, and extraordinary efforts give us a chance to understand something profoundly new about humanity and about the world — something no one before us could have known.

About the Project

Stories of Warriorsis a project that amplifies the voices of Ukrainian veterans.

It is a Ukrainian-Danish rehabilitation and reintegration project where storytelling is combined with art therapy to reflect on the experience of war. We also see the project’s mission as shaping the image of veterans through their creativity.

The project is dedicated to the memory of the bright knight Nazar Ostrovskyi.

Compiled and edited by: Grigory Semenchuk
Translation: Kateryna Smirnova

In the future, we aim to publish printed collections in Ukrainian, English, Danish, Swedish, and other languages. We dream of expanding the project to other countries so that the stories of Ukrainian Warriors can be heard by as many people as possible.

* We are open to collaboration with veterans and veteran organizations, writers, literary communities, and everyone interested in translating, publishing, and voicing the stories of our defenders.

Project Organizers

The project is implemented jointly by YMCA-YWCA Lviv and YMCA Armed Services Danmark (KFUM Soldatermission) with the support of the New Democracy Fund.
